720 God Wants Man’s True Obedience
Verse 1
Through their obedience,
God makes people perfect,
through their enjoyment of His words,
and the suffering in their lives.
Only through such faith
can their dispositions change,
so they can have true knowledge of God.
Verse 2
Those who merely enjoy God’s grace
cannot be made perfect or changed.
Their patience and piety,
obedience and love are just skin deep.
They cannot truly know God,
and even when they know God,
it’s a superficial knowledge they’ve found.
Pre-chorus 1
This leads them to say things like
“God loves man, He shows compassion.”
This shows no true knowledge of God.
Chorus
If you’re not being satisfied
with living in God’s grace,
if you’re devoutly yearning
and you’re searching for the truth,
and if you are seeking to be gained by God,
that’s the kind of faith He wants,
that’s the kind of faith He wants,
for this is consciously obeying God.
Verse 3
If people can’t obey God,
becoming doubtful, falling down
when they’re refined by God’s words
or faced with His trials,
that’s not obedience at all.
Within them, there are rules about faith in God
and doctrines based upon the Bible.
Pre-chorus 2
These people, filled with human things,
obey God by their preference.
Would God want obedience like this?
Bridge
This is self-appeasement, self-satisfaction,
this is not obedience to God.
If you say that it is, is that not blasphemy?
You are an Egyptian Pharaoh,
committing evil, opposing God.
That’s not how He wants you to serve.
So repent and try to gain some self-awareness.
Do not disturb, but know your place,
or you’ll be punished for opposing God.
Chorus
If you’re not being satisfied
with living in God’s grace,
if you’re devoutly yearning
and you’re searching for the truth,
and if you are seeking to be gained by God,
well, that’s the kind of faith He wants,
yes, that’s the kind of faith He wants,
for this is consciously obeying God,
for this is consciously obeying God.
