62. The Principles of Practicing the Truth
1. You must understand God’s will according to God’s words, and be clear on the main aspects of reality of the truth—this principle must never be violated;
2. You must do your utmost to uphold God’s work, and resolutely fulfill your duties using the principle of being beneficial to the life entry of God’s chosen people;
3. You must act according to the truth, and hold fast to the principle of performing your duties in any environment or context, needing only to achieve results, and not following rules;
4. Those who follow the truth must feel that the principles you adhere to in your duties are appropriate—ensure that your conscience remains clear, and you have no regrets.
Relevant Words of God:
Understand the word of God and put it into action. Be principled in your actions and deeds; this is not abiding by rules or to do so grudgingly just for show. Rather, this is the practice of truth and living by the word of God. Only practice such as this satisfies God. Any custom that pleases God is not a rule but the practice of truth.
from “Believing in God Should Focus on Reality, Not Religious Rituals” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
Before man carries out the words of God, he must know the words of God, that is, understand God’s will; only in this way can God’s words be carried out accurately and according to God’s heart. This must be possessed by everyone who seeks the truth, and is the process that must be experienced by everyone who tries to know God.
from “Only Those Who Know God Can Bear Testimony to God” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
With regard to each and every truth, people should seek, try to figure out and investigate what the inner meaning of the truth is, how to practice that aspect of the truth, and how it can be entered into—these are things people should possess. In all the aspects of truth that you should now possess, you only understand the surface doctrine, the external appearance, and you do not understand the essence of the truth, as you have not experienced it. For example: There is much truth contained within the aspect of performing one’s duty, there is also much truth contained within the aspect of man’s loving God, and to know themselves, people must understand much truth. There is much truth of the significance and mystery of the incarnation that must also be understood. There is much truth contained within the issues such as how people should worship God, how they should conduct themselves, how they should obey God, what they should do to conform with God’s will and how they should serve God. How do you consider or try to figure out the questions of all these aspects of the truth? There is truth that is especially deep within each and every aspect, and they require people to experience them. If you do not experience them and only ever talk about the surface of the words, never figuring them out or experiencing them from their depths, you will forever live on the surface of the words, and will be incapable of change.
from “Only the Pursuit of the Truth Is the True Belief in God” in Records of Christ’s Talks
Therefore, if you do not understand God’s will, if you do not understand the intentions of His words, if you do not understand the aim or result which He seeks to achieve, if you do not understand what His words seek to accomplish and perfect in man, then you do not yet comprehend the truth. Why does God say what He says? Why does He speak in that tone? Why is He so earnest and sincere in every word He speaks? Why does He choose to use certain words, and not others? Do you know? If not, it means you don’t understand God’s will or His intentions, you do not understand the context behind His words. If you don’t comprehend this, then how can you attain the truth? Attaining the truth means that you understand His will through every word that He says. Once you understand, you put it into practice. You live out the word of God, and make it your reality. Then and only then, can you say that you really comprehend the truth. Only when you have a thorough understanding of the word of God can you really grasp the truth. You only understand the word of God on a superficial level. For example, you say, “God wants us to be honest and not deceptive; therefore, we must be honest.” But why does God want people to be honest and not deceptive? Why does God want people to love Him? Why does He require that of people? Why does He make such definitions? Everything is said to achieve a certain effect. The truth that God expresses is aimed at those who thirst for the truth, those who seek the truth and those who are fond of the truth. As for those who concern themselves with letters and doctrines and like to give long and pompous speeches, they will never attain the truth. They are fooling themselves. Such people have an incorrect view of reading God’s words; just as their stance is misaligned, so too is their view.

You are able to quiet your heart in God’s presence whenever you do anything; even if you do not understand God’s will, you must still fulfill your duties and responsibilities to the best of your ability. It is not too late to wait for God’s will to be revealed to you and then put this into practice. When your relationship with God has become normal, then you will also have a normal relationship with people. Everything is established on the foundation of God’s words. Through eating and drinking the words of God, practice in accordance with God’s requirements, put your viewpoints right, and do not do things that resist God or disturb the church. Do not do things that do not benefit the lives of the brothers and sisters, do not say things that do not contribute to other people, do not do shameful things. Be just and honorable when doing all things and make them presentable before God. Even though the flesh is weak sometimes, you are able to attach the highest importance to benefiting God’s family, not covet your own benefits, and carry out righteousness. If you can practice in this way, your relationship with God will be normal.

2. You should do anything that is beneficial to God’s work, and nothing that is detrimental to the interests of God’s work. You should defend God’s name, God’s testimony, and God’s work.
from “The Ten Administrative Decrees That Must Be Obeyed by God’s Chosen People in the Age of Kingdom” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
Before I leave you, I must still exhort you to refrain from doing that which is not in accordance with the truth. Rather, you should do that which is pleasing to all, that which brings benefit to all men, and that which benefits your own destination, otherwise the one who suffers in the midst of disaster will be none other than yourself.
from “Prepare Sufficient Good Deeds for Your Destination” in The Word Appears in the Flesh
Approval from God is the first thing you should think about and work for; it should be the principle and scope in your practice. The reason that you should determine if what you are doing conforms with truth is because if it conforms with truth, then it certainly conforms with God’s will. It is not that you should determine if the matter is right or wrong, or if it is in accordance with everyone else’s tastes, or if it is in accordance with your own desires. Rather, it is to determine if it is in accordance with truth, if it benefits the work and interests of the church. If you consider these aspects, then you will be more and more in line with God’s will when you do things. If you don’t consider these aspects and merely rely on your own will to do things, then you are guaranteed to do them incorrectly, because the will of man is not the truth and of course is not in conformance with God. If you want to be approved by God, then you must practice according to the truth, rather than according to your own intentions. Some people do sly things behind closed doors or do some private matters. After they are done, the brothers and sisters say that the things they did appear quite inappropriate, but they will not recognize them this way. They think that this is a personal matter and doesn’t involve the work of the church, it doesn’t involve the finances of the church and it doesn’t involve people in the church, so it doesn’t count as violating the scope of truth and God should not interfere with this matter. Some things look to you like they are private matters and don’t involve any principle or truth. However, from the perspective of the brothers and sisters, when you do this thing, it looks like you are being very selfish and that you are giving no consideration to the work of God’s family and how it will affect God’s family and that you are only considering your own benefit. This already involves the order of the saints and it involves the issues of human nature. What you are doing doesn’t involve the interests of the church and it doesn’t involve truth, but what you are doing violates the morals of human nature and ultimately, it doesn’t conform to truth. No matter what you are doing, no matter how big the matter is, and regardless of whether you are fulfilling your duty in God’s family, or whether it is your private matter, you must consider whether this matter conforms with God’s will, whether this matter is something a person with humanity should do, and whether or not what you are doing would make God happy. You need to think about these things. If you do this, then you are a person who seeks the truth and a person who truly believes in God. If you devoutly treat every matter and every truth this way, then you will be able to transform your disposition.
from “Seeking God’s Will and Putting Truth Into Practice to the Greatest Extent Possible” in Records of Christ’s Talks
During the process of seeking to enter, every matter must be investigated and compared against God’s word and compared against the truth; they must be thoroughly mulled over to know how to do them in a way that is entirely in conformity with God’s will. Things that arise from your self-will can then be abandoned. You will know how to do things in conformity with God’s will and will then go and do them, as though everything is taking its natural course, and it will feel exceedingly easy. People who have the truth do things in this way. You can then really show others that you have genuinely changed your disposition, others will see that you surely possess some good deeds, and that you do things in a principled way, and do everything right. They will see that this is someone who understands the truth, who certainly has some human likeness and, sure enough, the word of God has reaped results with them.
from “Only by Seeking the Truth Can You Obtain Changes in Your Disposition” in Records of Christ’s Talks
If you cannot accurately grasp the will of God and don’t know how to practice, then you should communicate with others. If no one feels like they can see the matter clearly, then you should carry out the most reasonable solution; but if you ultimately discover that there is an error in carrying it out this way, then you should quickly correct it, and God will not count the error as a sin. Because your intent was right at the time of putting this matter into practice, and you were practicing in accordance with truth, only you didn’t see it clearly, and there were some errors in your actions; this is an extenuating circumstance. However, now many people merely rely on their own two hands to work and rely on their own minds to do this and that, and they seldom ponder: Does practicing this way conform to God’s will? Would God be happy if I do it this way? Would God trust me if I do it this way? Would I be putting truth into practice if I do it this way? If God hears this, would He be able to say, “This matter is done correctly and suitably. Keep it up”? Are you able to seriously examine everything like this? Are you able to be meticulous in everything? Or are you able to ponder if God despises the way you are doing it, how everyone else feels about the way you are doing it, whether you are doing it based on your own will, or to satisfy your own desires…? You have to put much thought into it, ask many questions, and seek more, and the errors will become smaller and smaller. Doing things this way proves that you are a person who genuinely seeks truth and that you are a person who reveres God, because you are doing things in accordance with the direction required by truth.
from “Seeking God’s Will and Putting Truth Into Practice to the Greatest Extent Possible” in Records of Christ’s Talks
How do you know whether God praises you or not? In the very least, you will feel exceptionally steadfast in your heart regarding everything that you do, you will feel the Holy Spirit guiding and enlightening you and working in you when you fulfill your duties, do any work in God’s family, or in normal times; your conduct will fit hand in hand with God’s words, and when you have a certain degree of experience, you will feel that what you did in the past was relatively suitable. If after gaining experience for a period of time, you feel that some of the things you did in the past were not suitable and you are dissatisfied with them, and indeed there was no truth in the things you did, then it proves that everything you did was resisting God. It proves that your service was full of rebelliousness, resistance and human behaviors.
