149 The Significance of the Incarnation
Verse 1
Incarnation means God’s Spirit becomes flesh.
This means that God Himself becomes flesh.
His work in the flesh is the Spirit’s work
which is realized in and expressed by the flesh.
Verse 2
None except the flesh of God can fulfill
the ministry of the incarnate God.
Only God’s incarnate flesh, this normal humanity,
can express the divine work.
Chorus
The significance of God’s incarnation
is that an ordinary man does God’s work,
that God does His divine work in humanity
so that Satan is vanquished.
Verse 3
By becoming flesh to do His work,
He shows Satan God is flesh, a normal person,
yet He can rule the world in triumph,
can vanquish Satan, redeem, conquer mankind.
Verse 4
It is Satan’s goal to corrupt mankind,
while the work of God is to save mankind.
Satan traps man in a bottomless pit,
while God rescues him from that abyss.
Verse 5
Satan makes all mankind worship it,
while God makes them subject to His dominion.
For He is the Lord of all creation,
yes, He is the Lord of all creation.
Chorus
The significance of God’s incarnation
is that an ordinary man does God’s work,
that God does His divine work in humanity
so that Satan is vanquished.
Bridge
Through God’s two incarnations,
all this work is achieved.
His flesh is, in essence, the union
of humanity and divinity,
and possesses normal humanity.
Chorus
The significance of God’s incarnation
is that an ordinary man does God’s work,
that God does His divine work in humanity
so that Satan is vanquished.
