407 Have You Gained Anything From Years of Belief?

Intro

You ought to know exactly

what the purpose of God’s work is,

and for whom He carries it out.

Verse 1

Does your love contain good or evil?

And just how is your knowledge of God?

Is it akin to David’s and Moses’?

Or is it nothing much like it at all?

Is your service to God similar

to what He received from Abraham?

Chorus

You should reflect upon yourself:

You have toiled for years for God’s sake,

but have you, in all of that time,

ever obtained a single thing?

Have you undergone any transformation?

Have you ever acquired anything?

Verse 2

You’re indeed being perfected by God,

but you should know whom you will represent,

as well as whose outcome you will share.

In your life’s experience of His work,

have you reaped a joyful, abundant harvest?

And is it bountiful and fruitful?

Chorus

You should reflect upon yourself:

You have toiled for years for God’s sake,

but have you, in all of that time,

ever obtained a single thing?

Have you undergone any transformation?

Have you ever acquired anything?

Bridge

In exchange for the ordeals you’ve gone through,

have you become like Peter who was crucified,

or like Paul, struck down and receiving a great light?

You should know: You should have some sense of these things.

Chorus

You should reflect upon yourself:

You have toiled for years for God’s sake,

but have you, in all of that time,

ever obtained a single thing?

Have you undergone any transformation?

Have you ever acquired anything?
