823 Only by Knowing God’s Deeds Can One Bear True Witness to Him
Verse 1
If you cannot see God’s deeds
among all that He’s created,
you cannot bear witness to them.
If you can’t bear witness to Him
but speak of the small God you know
who’s limited to your ideas,
who exists in your mind only,
God will never praise your faith.
Chorus
If you want to bear true witness to the one true God,
bear witness in a way that accords with His will,
you must know what He has and is from His deeds,
see God’s authority as He controls everything,
and see the truth of how He provides for all mankind.
Verse 2
If you only testify to God
in terms of what He gives to you,
enjoying all God’s graces,
and how you accept God’s ways,
accepting His discipline
and accepting His chastening,
that does not come close
to satisfying Him.
Chorus
If you want to bear true witness to the one true God,
bear witness in a way that accords with His will,
you must know what He has and is from His deeds,
see God’s authority as He controls everything,
and see the truth of how He provides for all mankind.
Bridge
If you only acknowledge
your daily needs and necessities
all come directly from God,
but you fail to see the truth—
He’s taken all He’s created
for the provision of mankind
as He leads all of mankind
by His rule over all things—
then you can never bear witness to God.
Chorus
If you want to bear true witness to the one true God,
bear witness in a way that accords with His will,
you must know what He has and is from His deeds,
see God’s authority as He controls everything,
and see the truth of how He provides for all mankind.
