502 The Meaning of Forsaking the Flesh

Verse 1

God has saved you and chosen your fate,

but if you refuse to satisfy Him

and won’t put the truth into practice,

and will not fight against your own flesh

with a heart that truly loves God,

you will ruin yourself and be plunged into pain.

Verse 2

If you always choose to care for the flesh,

Satan will slowly swallow you up,

leaving you no life or the Spirit’s touch,

until you are filled with darkness inside.

You’ll then become Satan’s captive,

your heart won’t have God, you’ll deny and leave Him.

Chorus

Whether you gain life before God

and what will be your final end,

rest on how you perform your fight with the flesh.

Verse 3

To love God you must face hardship and pain.

You don’t need outward passion or hardship,

or further reading or running around.

Put aside lavish thoughts and your own interests,

give up your notions and intentions,

dismiss your designs, for this is God’s will.

Chorus

Whether you gain life before God

and what will be your final end,

rest on how you perform your fight with the flesh.

Bridge

God asks people to practice the truth

to deal with the things inside of them,

and their thoughts and notions

that don’t follow God’s heart.

There are things within man unfit for God’s use,

the flesh is replete with rebellion,

so man must learn to fight the flesh all the more.

God calls this the suffering for man to bear with Him.

Chorus

Whether you gain life before God

and what will be your final end,

rest on how you perform your fight with the flesh.

Whether you gain life before God

and what will be your final end,

rest on how you perform your fight with the flesh.
