How to Pursue the Truth (20) Part Two

Some people see others’ children being particularly naughty and say, “What a naughty child; one look tells you he’s no good. He’ll definitely neglect doing proper work when he grows up. How could he amount to anything?” But if others say to such a person that his child is naughty, he replies, “So what if he’s naughty? My child being naughty is a manifestation of his promising future. When he grows up, he’ll be able to rise above the crowd; maybe he’ll even become a high official!” When other people’s children are naughty, he says they won’t amount to anything when they grow up, but when his own child is naughty, he says they will be able to rise above the crowd when they grow up. Which of his statements is correct? (Neither.) Then why does he say this? Is he speaking out of fairness? (No.) That he can say such things shows that he has no awareness of conscience. Other people’s children aren’t even grown yet, so how can he tell they won’t amount to anything? Whether people amount to anything when they grow up depends on God’s ordination and the path they walk; how could it depend on a single sentence from him! That he can say such things shows that he has no awareness of conscience. It’s the same issue of being naughty, yet when speaking of his own child, he puts a positive spin on it, whereas when speaking of others’ children, he puts a negative spin on it. Are his words fair? (No.) Then what kind of person is fair? (A person with conscience.) What are the qualities of a person with conscience? A person with conscience possesses two qualities: uprightness and kindness. Being upright means, at the very least, that one’s heart must be right when one speaks and acts. The words one speaks must be fair, objective, and factual; they must not be biased, serve to cover up shortcomings, or be based on feelings. When other people’s children are naughty, he says they won’t be any good when they grow up, but when his own child is naughty, he says they will have a promising future when they grow up. The same manifestation of naughtiness gets two different descriptions from him. Would you say this person is an upright individual? (No.) He is not an upright individual; he speaks solely based on feelings. Does a person who speaks solely based on feelings have conscience and reason, then? (No.) This point alone is enough to prove that he has neither conscience nor reason. He says only nice things about his own child, with blessings and good wishes, but curses other people’s children when he speaks about them. This is being unkind and not upright. Because he does not possess a conscience, he is able to say such malicious words. Such a person does not speak fairly and expresses nothing but twisted reasoning. In one respect, this shows that they are not upright; in another, it shows that they are not kind. People who are not kind will describe others’ situations as bad no matter what they are. They speak with ulterior intentions, desperately hoping that things go badly for others. There is malice and a sense of cursing others in what they say. They always speak this way and never feel uneasy about it in their conscience. They speak this way about other people’s affairs, and they treat others this way too. For example, a woman’s husband has an affair. Fearing what others will say about this, she tells people, “My husband is having an affair because he is just too outstanding. He’s good-looking and capable. In this evil society nowadays, those women are so brazen—they just throw themselves at him. It’s just because he is too outstanding. This also proves that I didn’t misjudge him; I have such good taste!” But if someone else’s husband has an affair, she says, “You can tell he’s not a decent person. He hasn’t got either money or looks, yet he’s out there chasing mistresses. Any woman who stays with him is blind!” She even advises that person to hurry up and abandon her husband, and go find a new one. That person asks, “Your husband is also having an affair, so why don’t you find a new one?” She says, “My husband is different from yours. Your husband is a scoundrel. Mine is just too outstanding, and others force themselves on him. My husband couldn’t help himself, whereas your husband actively sought out a mistress.” You see, what she says about everything changes when it involves her. Anything involving her is excusable and a special case; she describes it all in a positive light. But when it involves others, it’s different; she describes it all as bad. Then, if such a person’s parents do not believe in God, what will they say? “Although my parents don’t believe in God, they are good people in the world. They don’t get in fights or curse at others, and they help anyone who’s experiencing difficulty. They are known far and wide as eminently good and kind people. If they believed in God, they would definitely be better than us!” Yet when some brothers’ and sisters’ parents do not believe in God, they say, “Your parents are all devils!” When some brothers’ and sisters’ parents do believe in God, they say, “Even if they believe in God, they are believers in name only, and they’re no good. Since they believe in God, why don’t they support you doing duty?” Whenever it involves themselves, what they say changes. They never speak based on objective facts, and their words are never fair. They have one standard for their own affairs and another for other people’s. Deep in their hearts, there is no fair standard to assess all kinds of people, events, and things. Whatever involves themselves is good and positive, and has various justifiable reasons; whatever involves others should be condemned, cursed, and rejected, and is of devils and Satan. As for their family, relatives, and friends, they are all good people; if they believe in God, then they are all true believers, and they are all brothers and sisters. But when it comes to the brothers and sisters in the church, they judge them arbitrarily, saying this one is a disbeliever, that one is not devoted to doing their duty, and that they should all be cleared out. If a brother or sister makes a small mistake or has a minor issue, they immediately seize upon it, make it public, and then lecture and belittle them with a stern look in their eyes. But when their own relatives do something wrong, they just try to smooth things over and do all they can to defend them with sophistry. Does such a person have any fairness? (No.) They have no fairness at all. When dealing with brothers and sisters and other people, they “adhere to principles” with a stern look in their eyes, feeling that they possess the truth reality. They often boast before others, saying, “Look how much I adhere to principles. What a firm stance I have. I can practice the truth so well.” But when it comes to their own family affairs—their husband or wife, children, relatives, and even their dog—their attitude changes. For example, if their dog barks whenever it sees a stranger and bites indiscriminately when acquaintances visit, they say, “Look, this dog is truly a good, faithful guardian. He is absolutely loyal to me, his master; he never changes!” But if someone else’s dog bites indiscriminately when seeing an acquaintance, they say, “This dog is blind. He doesn’t even look to see who’s here. He has no principles in guarding the house. What’s he biting blindly for?” They aren’t even fair to dogs. What kind of person is this? (This is not a human being.) They think everything they do is correct and reasonable, and that it aligns with positive things; they even think they are adhering to the truth principles. But when it comes to any unfair thing they do or any twisted reasoning they express, they never think it’s wrong, nor do they ever correct it. If you reproach or expose them, they do not accept it. What is the final result? It’s that they stubbornly stick to their own claims and their so-called principles, and even act as if they are the embodiment of justice and evaluate all matters. In fact, the perspective and stance from which they evaluate the correctness of things are completely antagonistic to, and contrary to the truth principles, yet they themselves never realize this. They spout many heresies and fallacious arguments, stubbornly cling to these words, and even oppose the truth and try to argue with those who can discern right from wrong, try to argue with those who understand the truth. What kind of people are these? They are unreasonable people. Even if what they do and insist on is not considered wrong in people’s eyes, judging from their many manifestations and revelations, they absolutely do not possess uprightness, kindness, and reason, these qualities of humanity. Just looking at how they treat the various people, events, and things in daily life, their evaluation of even a child or a dog is twisted—no matter how bad their own dog is, it’s still the best in the world; and no matter how good someone else’s dog is, they cannot bring themselves to say a single good thing about it. They absolutely will not evaluate a person or a matter fairly, much less treat a person or a matter fairly. In their humanity, there are only feelings and bias. They only protect their own interests and any people, events, and things related to them. Apart from this, they feel there’s nothing in life worth doing. Among any group of people and in any matter, the quality of their nature that they manifest is that of putting a twist on all objective people, events, and things, and misrepresenting them. They evaluate and treat them entirely according to their own thoughts and views or based on whether they are beneficial to them.

People of this type, who do not have the qualities of humanity, do not possess the uprightness, kindness, and reason of humanity. Judging from these manifestations, aren’t such people difficult to deal with? (Yes.) They are difficult to deal with and difficult to get along with. You can never get them to accept correct thoughts and views, because they do not have the faculty to accept positive things. This means they do not possess the conditions to accept any correct thoughts and views. Therefore, many correct views and positive things are misinterpreted and warped by them, and after being warped, they become the various thoughts, views, and claims peculiar to this type of person. Even if they believe in God, no matter how many of God’s words they’ve read or how many sermons and fellowships they’ve listened to, they always hold onto their own fallacious thoughts and views in their hearts, never letting them go. Even if God provides them with the truth, they cannot possibly accept correct thoughts and views from God, nor can they possibly treat or evaluate a person or a matter with correct descriptions and in a correct way. Based on the qualities of their humanity, they will only treat all kinds of people, events, and things using their peculiar fallacious thoughts and views, and they will persist in doing so. So, you can see from such people that, besides having arrogant and deceitful dispositions, they have another clearly prominent disposition, which is being particularly intransigent. The specific manifestation of this is that they’re especially obstinate, foolish, stubborn, and even hidebound. When you interact with such a person and discuss some topics, or you face some matters together while associating with them, you see that their attitudes and dispositions in facing matters are particularly intransigent, obstinate, foolish, and stubborn. A correct matter or a correct thought and view that is obviously very easy for a normal person to accept becomes very difficult to accept when it comes to them, with many obstacles involved. It leaves you not knowing whether to laugh or cry, and you feel that this person is particularly troublesome: “Why does such a simple matter become a difficult problem with them? Are they even human?” Getting them to accept a correct matter or a correct view is as strenuous as getting a wolf to give up meat and eat various vegetables instead. It’s equivalent to asking them to change their attribute—it’s that difficult. It might be that, for some small matter, you spend a lot of time explaining and go to great lengths to barely persuade them to accept it, but when another matter arises, their intransigent disposition manifests again, and it manifests in a particularly obvious way—with them displaying their distorted comprehension and obstinacy, as well as being foolish, stubborn, and hidebound. As you have more contact with and gain more insight into such people, you will discover that people’s essences differ. When it comes to the essence of such people, you may have to expend a tremendous amount of effort to get through to them and explain things clearly regarding some insignificant matters, finally achieving some results with great difficulty. However, when it comes to issues of viewpoint and stance, or major matters, you can never communicate with them. At that point, you will know that there are attributes for people, and everyone’s attribute is different. If two people cannot communicate smoothly or cooperate harmoniously together, and cannot quickly reach harmony and consensus on their viewpoints when discussing any matter, then they are of different attributes. Because people of the type who do not know what’s correct and what’s incorrect do not have the ability in their humanity to discern what’s correct and what’s incorrect, they will never realize why obviously correct thoughts and views, correct words, and correct matters, are correct, or where their correctness lies. They will say, “Why is what you say correct? Why is what I say not correct? Just how is what you say correct?” Sometimes, to prove that what you say is correct, you have to present facts and reason things out, give many examples and make many analogies, going through so much trouble and investing great thought before you can explain one matter clearly to them. After finally doing so, you will still have to invest much thought and go through much trouble to explain the next matter that arises clearly to them. If you always do this, over time you will discover that doing so ultimately cannot change a person’s attribute, and that you’ve been running a fool’s errand. Even if you expend a lot of effort and place great hope in them, the results you receive will be minuscule, because no one can change a person’s attribute. If someone doesn’t even know what’s correct and what’s incorrect, then there is only one move that can change their attribute, which is for them to go back to their original form to be reincarnated again. If they’re lucky, they will be reincarnated as a human; if they are unlucky and are once again reincarnated as something other than a human, then there is still no hope of getting such people to know what’s correct and what’s incorrect. This is just how it is.

People of this type, who do not have the qualities of humanity, have another characteristic in their association with others: They can pick out various kinds of faults in everyone else, but when they have these same faults, they never admit that they are faults. They simply cannot see any strong points or merits in others; they just pick out their faults and expose their shortcomings, using this as an excuse to say that others cannot cooperate harmoniously with them, and that the inability to cooperate harmoniously is all others’ fault, while they themselves are not at fault at all, and it’s others who need to know themselves. What is the problem here? In conducting themselves and dealing with things, such people can never treat others rationally, nor can they treat their own problems in a rational, correct, and fair way. Would you say their attitude in handling matters and treating people is correct or incorrect? (Incorrect.) But do they know this? (They don’t.) They always assess and view others from the moral high ground. Their way of viewing others, and the perspective from which they do so, involve using their own so-called “correct and incorrect” to discern others. They see everything others do as wrong and inferior to them. If a dispute arises and they cannot cooperate harmoniously, they believe it’s all other people’s problem and that it’s caused by others, that others have corrupt dispositions, and that it’s others who should make changes and transform. They see others as full of faults and problems, without a single merit, while viewing themselves as abounding with merit, and free of any faults. Would you say such people have reason? (No.) Do the eyes of people without reason serve any purpose? (No.) They just cannot see the strong points and merits in all sorts of people. On the contrary, they seize upon others’ shortcomings—which, in actuality, may not necessarily be shortcomings—and blow them out of proportion. Things are fine if no problems arise, but once a problem does arise, they seize upon the other party’s shortcomings and won’t let go, saying, “In what way are you better than me? If you’re better than me, why did this problem still happen?” Their deep-seated defiance erupts, and their true inner viewpoints are all laid bare. They never view people, events, and things in a rational way. In their eyes, any manifestation from other people is a problem, a fault. Going by their thoughts and views, none of it passes muster; it’s all wrong, all negative things, and all leverage for them to use for judgment. Such people are difficult to deal with. They do not possess the conscience and reason of normal humanity, so deep in their hearts, their so-called “correct and incorrect” means simply that whatever they think is correct is correct, and whatever they think is not correct is incorrect. They assess the correctness of people, events, and things based on their own evaluation, based on their own preferences, and also based on their own interests. They will not view people and things fairly. Anything they dislike, are incompatible with, are not benefitted by, or look down on is generalized as wrong and bad, without any room for discussion. Such people are not only difficult to deal with but also frightening. If there is such a person around you, once their thoughts and views are all expressed, their character is fully laid bare. You can see what exactly is deep within their soul, what exactly they love, what exactly their needs are, and what exactly they pursue. Seeing these things in them can make you disgusted with them for a lifetime. Of course, when all these problems of theirs are laid bare, you will have the answer regarding manifestations of theirs such as their distorted comprehension, and the obstinacy, foolishness, stubbornness, and a proneness to distortions that they reveal due to their intransigent disposition. What is this answer? It’s that such people do not possess normal humanity—that is, they do not possess the conscience and reason of a human; they are non-humans. If they had a bit of conscience and reason, they would not seize upon twisted reasoning and speak of it as if it were correct. Having listened to so many sermons in their belief in God, they should have understood at least a little truth, and their viewpoints on things should have changed somewhat. So why do they still view things using the viewpoints of nonbelievers, and treat erroneous viewpoints and twisted reasoning as correct and the truth, and even condemn the truth, positive things, and correct things as negative things? When their erroneous thoughts and views are laid bare, you get the answer. No wonder they can say so many things in life that invert black and white and twist facts—it’s because of their utter refusal to accept the truth. Since they have the attribute of being averse to the truth, it’s only logical that they reveal those things. This is not due to how their parents taught them, nor the influence of the environment, much less what society taught them; this is the quality of their humanity. They are averse to the truth; they have this attribute. What one loves, what kind of humanity they reveal, what they naturally reveal in daily life, and what their usual state in life is—all of this depends on one’s attributes. No one can change a person’s attributes. Just like a snake: Because it has the attribute of being crooked, it will never slither in a straight line. Just like a crab: It walks sideways, and even if you put it in a narrow space, it will still walk sideways. These are their attributes, and attributes cannot be changed. If a person cannot discern right from wrong or know what’s correct and what’s incorrect, this characteristic can be said to be an attribute they have. Because they possess this attribute, they naturally reveal many things that relate to it in their daily life—this is very normal.
