740 Only Those Who Revere God Can Stand Witness in Trials

Verse 1

Job’s fear, yielding to God is a model to man.

His perfection was the peak of what man should be.

Though he didn’t see God, he knew He existed.

Thus he feared God; this fear allowed him to obey.

He let God take all he had without complaint.

He fell before Him, told Him that even now

if God took his flesh, he’d gladly allow it.

His conduct was due to his perfect humanity.

Pre-chorus

Job had an honest, innocent, kind humanity,

had experience of fearing and obeying God.

He also shunned evil and had the knowledge

“Jehovah gave, and Jehovah has taken away.”

Chorus

Because of all of these things he stood firm,

bore witness during Satan’s vicious attacks.

Because of this he didn’t disappoint God,

he gave God a suitable answer when trials came.

Bridge

Innocent, honest, and kind, Job was always unwavering

in his sense and experience of God’s existence.

Verse 2

On this foundation he made demands of himself

and standardized his thinking and behavior,

his conduct and principles of actions,

following God’s guidance and God’s deeds he had seen.

Because of Job’s experiences over time,

he had a real and actual fear of God.

He was able to truly shun evil.

This was the source of his steadfast integrity.
