How to Pursue and Gain the Truth (11)
Fellowship From the Brother Above – October 15, 2025 (Part Five)
Question 7: A potential gospel recipient said, “In Matthew 27:46, it is recorded that ‘Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying … My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’ If the Lord Jesus is God, why did He cry out to God in heaven when He was suffering?” How should this question be answered?
Answer: Does this potential gospel recipient believe in the Lord Jesus? (Yes.) He believes in the Lord Jesus and yet he still asks a question like that? Doesn’t that mean he doubts the Lord Jesus? (Yes, he thinks God is a Trinity.) He doubts the Lord Jesus, believing He is not God. He doubts the Lord Jesus because he doesn’t understand this one statement He made. Isn’t he a disbeliever? (Yes.) To doubt the Lord Jesus is to be a disbeliever. So, who does he believe in now? The Lord Jesus, Jehovah, or the Holy Spirit? See how confusing it gets? You should ask him, “Who do you truly believe is God? Do you believe in the Lord Jesus, in Jehovah, or in the Holy Spirit? Which one is God?” After asking this, you will know that he doesn’t really believe in the Lord Jesus. And why do we say he doesn’t believe in the Lord Jesus? Because he doesn’t acknowledge God’s incarnation, and because he doesn’t acknowledge that the Lord Jesus is God. Judaism does not acknowledge that God can become incarnate. They believe God is the Creator, and that the Creator can never become a man. So when you say that the Lord Jesus is the incarnate God, that He is Jehovah God in the flesh, Judaism does not accept it. And if you say that Almighty God is God incarnate, that He is the appearance of Jehovah God, Judaism is even more unable to accept it. They just obstinately cling to their notions.
This potential gospel recipient has begun to doubt the Lord Jesus because he doesn’t understand why He cried out, “My God, My God” on the cross before He breathed His last. How should you fellowship with him? First, you must explain to him the matter of the incarnate Son of man. There is a line in the scriptures where God prophesied His return: “But of that day and hour knows no man, not the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but My Father only” (Matthew 24:36). God said that when He returns, the Son will not know either. In that case, could the Son know that He Himself is God? (No.) When God returns, man will not know, the Son will not know, and the angels will not know. Only the Holy Spirit knows, and the Holy Spirit is the Father. What does the Son not knowing prove? (That the Son has normal humanity.) The Son has normal humanity, and the Spirit of God is hidden within that normal humanity, not letting the Son know. This explains why the incarnate God still prays to God in heaven. If the Spirit of God were hidden in the flesh to do His work and let this flesh know from the very beginning that He was God Himself, what would the consequence be? If the Lord Jesus had known from the start that He was God, He would have done many things, many things that the Holy Spirit can do. Wouldn’t that have been equivalent to publicly revealing His identity? Things would have gotten troublesome, and God’s work in the Age of Grace would have been impacted. Therefore, to prevent the Son of man from knowing that He was God, and to have Him do only a limited number of things, the Holy Spirit remained hidden from Him, not allowing Him to sense His presence. Someone might ask, “How can it be proven that the Holy Spirit was hidden within the Son of man without Him sensing it?” Do you acknowledge that God is almighty? (Yes.) You acknowledge that God is almighty. Well then, have you ever sensed it when the Holy Spirit was working in you? (No.) No one can sense it when the Holy Spirit works in them. Is this not one of the Holy Spirit’s wondrous deeds? (It is.) How wondrous is the Holy Spirit’s work? So wondrous that you aren’t even aware of how much work He has done in you. You also can’t explain clearly how the Holy Spirit works. The Holy Spirit works in a remarkably hidden way. So if people can’t sense the great amount of work the Holy Spirit does in them, could the Lord Jesus sense the work the Holy Spirit was doing in Him? (No.) Neither could the Lord Jesus. That is why when the Lord Jesus appeared and worked, when people asked Him, “Are You the Messiah?” the Lord sometimes said, “I do not know.” Was this a lie? (No.) The Lord Jesus was speaking of His true feelings. He was not completely clear on the matter.
So, how do you think the Holy Spirit works in me? The Holy Spirit doesn’t give me any clear feeling that He’s at work, but how do I confirm that the Holy Spirit is working in me? For example, sometimes I gain a perspective on a matter that I had never realized before, and I recognize that this comes from the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. Also, I don’t have a high level of education, and my comprehension and caliber are not much better than that of the average person. So how am I able to see through so many things? How am I able to do this work? I see some people who are more knowledgeable and have better caliber than me, so how is it that they can’t see through things or do this work? The more I ponder this, the more I feel that the Holy Spirit is enlightening and illuminating me, and that it is the work of the Holy Spirit, because the average person cannot achieve what I do. The fact that I can is because what I do comes from the work of the Holy Spirit. Do you think my reasoning is correct? (Yes.) Then when you listen to my fellowship, can you sense that what I say comes from the Holy Spirit? Can you confirm this? (We can.) After listening to my fellowship, some people say, “The words spoken by the man used by the Holy Spirit are truly enlightened by Him. They really do come from the Holy Spirit!” You can confirm it, but let me tell you something: Even though the Holy Spirit works in me and enlightens me so much, I truly don’t have any obvious sensation of it, because the work of the Holy Spirit is not supernatural. This is a fact. The Holy Spirit’s work in me is not supernatural. So, when you are moved by the Holy Spirit, is it supernatural? (No.) This isn’t supernatural either. Then what about when the Holy Spirit works in the incarnate God? Likewise, this isn’t supernatural. His work in the Lord Jesus was not supernatural, and His work in Almighty God, Christ of the last days, is also not supernatural. This is the wonder of the Holy Spirit’s work. When the Lord Jesus was on the cross, about to breathe His last, He said, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Was this statement normal and real? (It was.) It was completely normal and real! If you deny the fact that the Lord Jesus was the incarnate God simply because He said this, does this not mean that you don’t know the work of the Holy Spirit? Does it not mean you lack spiritual understanding? The Spirit of God works in a very subtle way. Even the incarnate Son of man Himself does not have a distinct sensation of it, just as we do not have a distinct sensation of the Holy Spirit’s work in us. It is no different at all. The Holy Spirit’s work is just that subtle and wondrous. The incarnate God accomplishes His work without any fanfare, in a completely non-supernatural way. Is this not God’s almightiness? (It is.) God is almighty, and His deeds are too wondrous for man to fathom. You can’t even fathom how the Holy Spirit works in the man used by God, let alone His work in the incarnate God. I can’t sense how God works in me, yet the work I do and the words I fellowship are beyond what the average person can achieve. The Holy Spirit’s work in me is just that subtle, as is His work in the incarnate God. The Holy Spirit’s work was undoubtedly just as subtle in the Lord Jesus. The incarnate God Himself doesn’t know how the Holy Spirit specifically works in Him. Can you comprehend what I’m saying? (We can.) Then what kind of person cannot comprehend this? (Disbelievers and those who lack spiritual understanding.) People who lack spiritual understanding cannot comprehend this. They have never experienced the work of the Holy Spirit, so they cannot comprehend this matter. What do you think of answering this question like this? (It’s clear.)
Question 8: I am responsible for training gospel preachers, but they have a passive attitude toward learning the practical skills required for their work. How should I fellowship to get them to take this seriously?
Answer: No matter what duty a person does, does it not always involve some professional knowledge? (Yes.) If you don’t learn any professional knowledge at all, then aren’t you just being perfunctory in your duty? Will you get any results by being perfunctory in your duty? No, you will not. Therefore, can people who never learn professional knowledge and whose performance of their duty yields poor results gain God’s approval and blessings? (No.) How does God evaluate such people? God says that if you are perfunctory in your duty, then you do not truly expend yourself for Him. In that case, what does your performance of your duty become? (Nothing but laboring.) Even your laboring isn’t up to standard. You show no devotion even in laboring. Is that not the case? (It is.) If your laboring isn’t even up to standard and God does not approve of you, and you continue to believe in God this way, won’t you just be hindering and ruining yourself? Why do we choose to believe in God and do our duties? Isn’t it for the sake of attaining salvation? Isn’t it to save ourselves from Satan’s influence and cast off our corrupt dispositions? Isn’t it to enter into the truth reality and bear witness for God by experiencing His work? If you don’t perform your duty well, then where is the reality of your understanding of the truth? What can you use to prove that you have the truth and can attain salvation? You have no proof. Only when you have performed your duty well is it right and proper for you to say that you submit to God. If you perform your duty well, it is also right and proper to say that you are loyal to God and bear testimony. Once you have performed your duty well, it is also true and credible to say that you have the truth reality. By performing your duty well and living out a true human likeness, you become a true follower of God, and you gain the truth. If you perform your duty well, you are in accordance with God’s intentions, and God will approve of you. Thus, you will have attained salvation. If you just muddle along in your duty and fail to perform it well, you will not gain God’s approval. Your belief in God will have been a failure, and you will have gained nothing. What can you use to verify your claim that you understand the truth? Have you performed your duty well? Have you achieved results? Are you someone who bears witness to God? If you have achieved none of these things, then the things you say are not practical. Only if you have performed your duty well and in a way that is up to standard will God say that you have the truth reality, that you have attained salvation, and that you are worthy of entering the kingdom of heaven. Is this not the case? (It is.) So, by what means does one come to pursue the truth in their faith in God? It is achieved through performing one’s duty. The pursuit of the truth is closely related to the performance of one’s duty. Performing one’s duty is the very process of experiencing God’s judgment and chastisement. If a person seeks the truth during this process, then they are pursuing the truth. If, in the end, their corrupt dispositions are cleansed through the performance of their duty, then their duty will bear fruit and become a testimony, and they will bear a strong and resounding testimony for God. Such a person has the truth reality. From the results of a person’s performance of their duty, one can see whether or not they have the truth reality. It can be said that a person’s loyalty to God, their submission to God, and their love for God are all revealed in the process of performing their duty. This is true. If a person has not performed their duty well, then what they say is just empty. Nothing they say is valid or practical. Therefore, to see if a person has the truth reality, one must look at how they perform their duty. If you can practice the truth and act according to principles in your duty, and if you have prepared many good deeds and borne a beautiful testimony, then you have the truth reality. Tell me, if a person performs their duty well, do they have any knowledge of God? Judging from their manifestations of practicing the truth, as well as from their submission, loyalty, and fear of God, they certainly have some knowledge of God. Once you have performed your duty well and have a testimony of practicing the truth, then you will possess all aspects of the truth reality. If you do not perform your duty well, then you have no truth reality whatsoever. So, tell me, is performing one’s duty crucial? (It is.) Performing one’s duty is absolutely crucial for a person to enter into the truth reality and achieve change in their disposition. What do you rely on to resolve the problems that exist and the corruption that is revealed in the course of your duty? (Seeking the truth.) If a person resolves many problems in their duty by seeking the truth, has this person not then come to understand the truth and enter into the truth reality? Has their disposition not also changed? (It has.) When people resolve their corrupt dispositions in the process of performing their duty, their life disposition changes. Then do the results of their duty not get better and better? (Yes.) At first, they are always perfunctory in their duty, without devotion. Through understanding the truth, they resolve the problems of laziness and of being perfunctory, and they become devoted in their duty. At first, they are rebellious and do not submit in their duty, and they don’t practice the truth. By seeking the truth, they also resolve this problem, they come to have true submission to God, and they can practice the truths they understand. Also, they used to engage in deceit and trickery in their duty, and they were not honest. By seeking the truth, they also resolve the problem of dishonesty, and they become able to be honest in their duty. The words they speak are true, without anything false mixed in. Are these not the results achieved by seeking the truth in the performance of one’s duty? (They are.) You see, a person’s entry into all truths is achieved by experiencing God’s work while performing their duty. If you only believe in God on the side, can you have such rich experiences? (No.) There are many things you won’t be able to experience. Through performing your duty, you can experience and ultimately practice all aspects of the truth. Is this not what it means to enter into the truth reality? Therefore, performing one’s duty is the only path by which to experience God’s work and gain the truth. This statement is not the least bit false. It is as practical and accurate as can be. Do you understand? (We do.) Look at some of the people in God’s house now. They have reached the age for finding a partner, but they have decided not to find a partner. Even if several people are pursuing them, they still don’t seek a partner. Why is this? They say, “The reason I’m not seeking a partner is so that I can perform my duty well and gain the truth. If I find a partner, the entanglements will be too great, and I won’t be able to gain the truth. That would jeopardize the great matter of my salvation.” What do you think of these words? Are they practical? (They are.) This is incredibly practical! The truth is eternal life. To gain the truth is to gain eternal life. It’s worth going through any amount of suffering and forsaking anything to do one’s duty well and gain the truth.
Question 9: In various countries, some brothers and sisters preach the gospel by approaching strangers on the street. Although they put a lot of time into doing this, very few people accept the gospel from this. We have repeatedly fellowshipped on the drawbacks of this method, explaining that they’ll get better results if they preach to relatives, friends, and acquaintances, or go to religious circles to find potential gospel recipients, but they still insist on their own ideas. How should we fellowship to resolve this issue?
Answer: Why are these people unwilling to preach the gospel in religious circles? Do they feel it’s too difficult? Religious people have so many problems that are not easy to resolve, so after hitting a wall with them a few times, they become afraid of interacting with them. But preaching the gospel on the street is much simpler. They can just randomly find a person to talk to, there’s no embarrassment for them, and no one gives them a hard time. As for the success rate of this method, they don’t care. It doesn’t matter to them whether the other person comes to believe or not, as long as they themselves don’t suffer humiliation or encounter any major difficulties. Is this not their mentality? (It is.) It’s like some people, when looking for a partner, don’t look for someone who’s well situated. They say, “If I find someone who’s well situated—someone with some knowledge and status who also earns a lot of money—they might look down on me or abandon me one day. That won’t do. I’ll just find someone who’s not above me. As long as they can support the family and love me, that’s enough.” Does that logic hold up? (It does.) Isn’t that a pretty realistic way of thinking? (It is.) So, if a person thinks like this when preaching the gospel, saying, “As long as I don’t suffer humiliation or have a hard time while preaching, it doesn’t matter if the results are poor,” what is the issue here? (In doing their duty, they only think about escaping difficulties and are unwilling to suffer or pay a price. They have no devotion to their duty.) Some people say, “I don’t understand the Bible or the truth, so this is the only way I can preach the gospel.” Is this a valid reason? (No.) If you don’t understand the truth, you can equip yourself with the truth. You should focus on striving toward the truth every day, and when you encounter a question in your gospel preaching that you can’t answer, you should ponder how to resolve it, and then find relevant passages of God’s words to read until you reach the point at which you see through to the issue. Then, the next time you encounter this difficulty in your preaching, won’t you be able to resolve it? It’s not the case that the truths of gospel preaching are too distant for you to reach, or that your experience is too shallow to understand the truth. It’s wrong for you to think this way. In fact, the truths related to gospel preaching are also simple, and you can understand them if you put more effort into pondering them. Especially now, don’t we have books and materials specifically for preaching the gospel? It’s even more convenient for you to equip yourself with these truths. As long as you properly equip yourself with these truths, you will be able to preach the gospel. Preaching the gospel is mainly about resolving the notions people have when they investigate the true way. One method to resolve these notions of theirs is to find some basis in God’s words and the Bible, and then fellowship with them based on this to resolve their problems. Another method is to use God’s words directly. If you don’t know how to fellowship on the truth, you can find a few passages of God’s words for the potential gospel recipient to read. Perhaps after reading a few passages, they will understand on their own, and their notions will be resolved. Both of these methods can achieve results in gospel preaching. You should figure out which of God’s words to use for resolving specific notions and problems. Whenever a potential gospel recipient raises a question when you preach to them, you can find the relevant passages of God’s words and read a few to them. If they are a person of good caliber, they might be captivated by God’s words. They might think, “These two passages resolve my problem perfectly. These words are so precious and crucial! How have I never read them before? They’re not in the Bible, either. These words must be from the Holy Spirit! Who else could speak them? No pastor or elder could speak such words. There is truth in this way of yours. I must investigate it.” You see, they didn’t start out interested, but by you reading a few passages of God’s words to them, you have captivated them. God’s words captured their heart, and they became willing to continue investigating. So if you can testify to God’s words, can you not then preach the gospel? Therefore, you should list thirty to fifty of the questions that potential gospel recipients frequently ask and then find the relevant passages of God’s words and compile them into a document. When a potential gospel recipient raises a question or a notion, you can quickly find the relevant passages in the document and read a few to them. After reading these passages, if you know how to fellowship, then fellowship with them. If you don’t, you can say, “I’m not very eloquent, and I can’t fellowship well, so I’ll just read more of God’s words to you. You’ll understand afterward.” If you focus on propagating God’s words, you can achieve results in your preaching of the gospel. Even if you yourself don’t understand the truth, as long as the passages of God’s words you find for the potential gospel recipient are just right, they may become captivated as soon as they hear them. If they yearn for the truth, they will be captivated after hearing the words of Almighty God, and they will be willing to investigate and accept the gospel. This is because they cannot find these truths anywhere else. These truths exist nowhere else. Only The Church of Almighty God has these truths, and only Almighty God can express the truth. Once they recognize this, they will not refuse to accept Almighty God. Tell me, is it easy to find God’s words to resolve the problems of potential gospel recipients? (It is.) Can doing so achieve results in the preaching of the gospel? (It can.) Reading God’s words to people is the best way to preach the gospel.
To achieve results and to satisfy God in the preaching of the gospel, there is another principle: You must understand what kind of person God wants to save. In other words, you must understand what kind of person can be saved by believing in God. So, what kind of person can be saved by believing in God? Only those who can accept the truth can be saved, right? (Right.) So, what kind of person should you preach to so that God will be satisfied? (People who accept the truth.) If we preach the gospel to people who can accept the truth and gain them, God is sure to be satisfied. Then what kind of people would God not be satisfied with you preaching to? (Muddleheaded people, evil people, those who seek only to eat their fill of loaves, and those who do not accept the truth and hate the truth.) God does not save muddleheaded people, people who cannot measure up to the truth, people who are averse to the truth, people who hate the truth, or evil people. Such people are not God’s sheep, and so if you bring such people into the church, God will not remember or approve of it. So, if you don’t preach the gospel according to principles and bring in numerous people whom God does not save, is this not all in vain? (It is.) Not only is it in vain, but it will also bring trouble to the work of God’s house. When these muddleheaded and evil people enter the church, they will just disrupt and disturb the work of God’s house. The church arranges for you to preach the gospel so that you can gain good people, and people who accept the truth according to principles. But instead, you don’t follow the principles and gain numerous evil people, muddleheaded people, and people who do not accept the truth. Is doing your duty in this way up to standard? (No.) Therefore, in preaching the gospel, one must follow the principle and preach to those who can accept the truth. So, tell me, is it faster to find people who can accept the truth in religious circles, or on the street? (It’s faster in religious circles.) Trying to find someone on the street who can accept the truth is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It’s incredibly difficult. You could preach for days on end without meeting a single good person. If you preach the gospel in religious circles, you might find two or three people who accept the truth out of every eighty or a hundred. This is much faster than searching on the street. But some people say, “That won’t work. If I find someone in a religious circle who can accept the truth, but they have knowledge of the Bible, I won’t be able to persuade them, and I still won’t be able to gain them. It’ll all be for nothing!” Is this way of thinking correct? (No.) Why not? If you can’t gain them on your own, you can cooperate with someone who understands the truth. Wouldn’t that be easier? If two or three of you cooperate, you can gain them and bring the good sheep before God. Is this difficulty not then resolved? (It is.) In the preaching of the gospel, if you gain one person who can accept the truth, how many people who do not love the truth is that worth? Getting the good fish is what’s important. One good fish is worth more than any number of rotten fish and shrimp.
God primarily measures whether a person has the truth by whether or not they have true experiential testimony. God determines whether a person has the truth based on whether or not they have testimony. If you believe in God and do your duty to the very end but have never borne any testimony, and not a single thing you have done qualifies as testimony, can you gain God’s approval? (No.) If you have one true, resounding testimony, you will have gained God’s approval, and you will have gained eternal life. If you have no testimony, you won’t gain eternal life even if you keep yourself busy for a lifetime! Is that not the case? (It is.) No matter what duty one does, one must pray to and rely on God to achieve results, and this is even more so for preaching the gospel. Furthermore, it’s actually much more convenient for us to preach the gospel now than it was for those preaching the gospel in the Age of Grace or the Age of Law. Why is this? We have readily available books of God’s words and all sorts of materials that can be used for preaching the gospel, like movies, experiential testimony videos, and so on. We have all kinds of materials. If you don’t know how to fellowship on the truth, you can read God’s words to potential gospel recipients or select a movie or an experiential testimony video for them to watch. Doesn’t that solve the problem? Look at the protagonist in the movie Meeting the Lord During the Catastrophes. What methods did he use to preach the gospel to Elder Wang? (He read God’s words and sang hymns.) They had a singing competition. What actually happened was that they each sang ten to twenty songs, competing against each other, but the movie only included one excerpt from each of them, as the movie would have been too long if all the songs were included. The protagonist sang hymns and read passages of God’s words, prompting Elder Wang to say, “These words are so good! They are the truth. If you had shown me these words of God sooner, I would have come to believe long ago. Would there have been any need for you to say so much?” You see, reading God’s words achieves the best results. Is this not the case? (It is.) Therefore, when you encounter notions and problems in your gospel preaching that you can’t resolve, you should say to the potential gospel recipients, “My experience is shallow. Let me read some of God’s words to you. Your caliber is better than mine, so your comprehension after hearing God’s words will surely be better than mine!” When you say this, they will think, “You’re very humble and speak rationally,” and they will be willing to listen to you. After that, you should see which of God’s words are needed for the notions and problems they’ve raised, and find precisely the words that they need, the ones that will resolve their notions, and read these words to them. After reading ten or twenty passages, perhaps these words will captivate them. You may not know how to fellowship on the truth, but you can still gain them by propagating God’s words. They can comprehend the truth directly from God’s words, which is far clearer than what we can convey through fellowship. Preaching the gospel is propagating God’s words. If you know how to propagate God’s words, then you know how to testify to God. If you can get potential gospel recipients to read the very words of God they need to resolve their notions, then no matter who you preach to, as long as they can accept the truth, you will be able to gain them. No matter how high their caliber is, just select passages of God’s words for them to read, and select movies and experiential testimony videos for them to watch. If they have comprehension ability, they will be convinced, and their problems will be resolved on their own. God’s words can resolve all of man’s problems, unless a person’s comprehension ability is too poor. However, if a person’s comprehension ability is too poor and you don’t know how to fellowship, you can just find someone who does know how to fellowship on the truth to fellowship with them. Doesn’t that also solve the problem? So, you must first discern the good people in religious circles. Pinpoint which people have comprehension ability and which have good caliber, and then find a way to get in touch with them. After that, start by chatting with them and build a rapport. Once they are willing to interact with you, you can find a way to read God’s words to them and let them read the books of God’s words. If, after reading God’s words, they say, “Wow, these words are all the truth! They are so much higher and richer than the truths in the Bible. These words are so precious! The One who can express these truths is no ordinary person. Could this be the Lord Jesus returned?”—if they have this feeling, then you have succeeded. God’s words have captivated them. Even if they still have notions, God’s words are like a thread pulling them along. Can they still run away? They can’t. Even if they don’t accept God’s work at that moment, they will come back to you after a few days. As long as they can comprehend the truth, then sooner or later they will accept God’s work of the last days. Is this not the case? (It is.) If you have fellowshipped on everything and read many of God’s words to a potential gospel recipient, but they still won’t listen, what kind of person are they? (A muddleheaded person who doesn’t accept the truth.) This is a muddleheaded person who lacks spiritual understanding and has no comprehension ability. Is there any value in you putting a lot of effort into such people and insisting on gaining them? These people are just rotten fish and shrimp. Since they themselves are unwilling to investigate, there is no need for us to put effort into them. We must put more effort into those who can accept the truth. Gaining one person who accepts the truth is the most valuable thing. Do you understand? (We do.)
