249 The Story of Thomas Is a Warning to Man

Intro

“Because you have seen Me, you have believed.

Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”

Verse 1

These words in the Bible the Lord Jesus spoke

when He came to Thomas are of great help to all

in the Age of Grace.

His appearance to Thomas and the words that He spoke

have had great impacts on all generations that came after.

Their significance is everlasting.

Verse 2

Thomas symbolizes a type of person

who believes in God and yet still doubts God.

They are suspicious.

They have sinister hearts, they are treacherous.

They do not believe in what God can accomplish,

His omnipotence, His sovereignty, nor God incarnate.

Bridge

But the Lord’s resurrection countered these traits

and gave them the chance to know their doubt,

to admit their own treachery,

to come to believe in the existence and resurrection of Jesus.

Chorus

What happened to Thomas was a warning and caution,

so generations to come could give themselves warnings

not to be doubters like Thomas,

and if they were doubters like Thomas,

they would sink into darkness.

Verse 3

If you’re just like Thomas, and you follow God

but still feel the need to touch the Lord’s rib

and feel His nail marks,

so you can confirm and verify

whether or not God really exists,

then God will forsake you.

Verse 4

The Lord Jesus demands people not to be like Thomas,

who will only believe what they see with their eyes,

but instead to be pure,

to be honest people and not to doubt God,

but to simply believe in and to follow God.

People like this are blessed.

Pre-chorus

This is a small requirement the Lord Jesus makes of people.

Chorus

What happened to Thomas was a warning and caution,

so generations to come could give themselves warnings

not to be doubters like Thomas,

and if they were doubters like Thomas,

they would sink into darkness.
