537 Waking Up to the Truth on Your Deathbed Is Too Late

Verse 1

Many people speak of much knowledge

but end up crying on their deathbed.

They hate themselves for wasting their lives

and living a long life for nothing.

Verse 2

They merely understand the doctrines,

but can’t put the truth into practice.

Instead of bearing witness to God,

they run hither and thither like a bee.

Pre-chorus

It’s only on the brink of death

that they finally see the truth:

They see that they don’t know God at all,

and that they lack true testimony.

Chorus

Why not seize the day?

Why not pursue the truth you love?

Why wait until tomorrow?

Is that not too late?

Why not seek the truth,

suffer for the truth while you live?

Do you wish to die with regrets?

Then why believe in God?

Verse 3

There are many matters where people

can put the truth into practice

with only the slightest exertion,

and in doing so, satisfy God.

Verse 4

But their hearts are possessed by demons,

so they can’t act for the sake of God.

Instead they act for the sake of flesh

and have nothing to show in the end.

Bridge

This is why people are troubled

and afflicted with difficulties.

Are these not the torments of Satan?

Is this not the corruption of flesh?

Verse 5

Don’t try to fool God with empty talk,

but rather take tangible action.

What’s the point in deceiving yourself?

What’s to gain by living for flesh and fame?

Chorus

Why not seize the day?

Why not pursue the truth you love?

Why wait until tomorrow?

Is that not too late?

Why not seek the truth,

suffer for the truth while you live?

Do you wish to die with regrets?

Then why believe in God?
