610 Emulate the Lord Jesus
Verse 1
Jesus completed God’s mission—
the work of redemption of man—
by giving His cares to God’s will,
without selfish purpose or plans.
He placed God’s plan at the center.
To the heavenly Father He prayed,
sought the will of heavenly Father,
for Himself He made no arrangements.
Chorus
If like Jesus you give all cares to God’s burden,
if you turn your back on your flesh like Him,
God will trust you with tasks of vital importance,
so you’ll meet the conditions needed to serve Him.
Verse 2
Jesus prayed and said, “God the Father!
Accomplish that which is Your will.
Don’t base Your deeds on My longings,
act so that Your plan is fulfilled.
Why should You care for man who’s weak,
who’s like an ant in Your hand?
I wish only to do Your will.
Do in Me as You would intend.”
Chorus
If like Jesus you give all cares to God’s burden,
if you turn your back on your flesh like Him,
God will trust you with tasks of vital importance,
so you’ll meet the conditions needed to serve Him.
Verse 3
On the road to Jerusalem,
Jesus’s heart felt agonized.
Yet He kept His word, powered forth
towards where He would be crucified.
In the end He was nailed to the cross,
became an image of sinful flesh,
completing the work of redemption,
and vanquishing hell and death.
Chorus
If like Jesus you give all cares to God’s burden,
if you turn your back on your flesh like Him,
God will trust you with tasks of vital importance,
so you’ll meet the conditions needed to serve Him.
Verse 4
Jesus lived for thirty-three years,
always striving to satisfy God,
never thinking of His loss or gain
but the will of God the Father.
The service of the Lord Jesus
was always in line with God’s will.
So the burden of man’s redemption
He was qualified to fulfill.
Bridge
Boundless suffering He went through,
and countless times Satan tempted.
Yet He never felt disheartened.
In trust and love, God gave Him this task.
Chorus
If like Jesus you give all cares to God’s burden,
if you turn your back on your flesh like Him,
God will trust you with tasks of vital importance,
so you’ll meet the conditions needed to serve Him.
Outro
Only under these conditions
will you say it’s His will you do,
that you’re completing His commission,
and say you are serving God truly.
