315 To Harbor Notions About Christ Is to Defy God
Verse 1
In your minds, the God in heaven
is very upstanding, righteous and great,
worthy of worship and esteem,
while this God on earth is just a substitute,
an instrument of heaven’s God,
and just could not be the equal of Him,
let alone be mentioned in the same breath as Him.
Pre-chorus 1
You believe the greatness and honor of God
belong to the glory of the God in heaven,
but as for the nature and corruption of man,
they’re attributes in which the earthly God has a part.
Chorus
The way you see the deeds of Christ,
the way you evaluate all His work,
His identity and substance,
is from the standpoint of the unrighteous.
The way you look at all of this
is from the perspective of the wicked.
Verse 2
You see God on earth as ever weak,
insignificant and incompetent,
while God in heaven is lofty,
forever so, not given to emotion,
in fact only to righteousness;
God on earth has only selfish motives,
and further is lacking fairness or reason.
Pre-chorus 2
You think God in heaven is always faithful and true,
while the God on earth always has a dishonest side;
the God in heaven loves man dearly, not so God on earth,
caring little and even neglecting man outright.
Chorus
The way you see the deeds of Christ,
the way you evaluate all His work,
His identity and substance,
is from the standpoint of the unrighteous.
The way you look at all of this
is from the perspective of the wicked.
Bridge
This faulty understanding
has long been kept within your hearts,
and may also be continued in the future.
Verse 3
You’ve made a serious mistake,
doing something not done by those before you:
serving only heaven’s lofty God
with a crown upon His head, not the other,
whom you see as so pointless,
He is all but invisible to you.
Is this not your sin, a classic example
of your offense against the disposition of God?
