161 The Root of Man’s Resistance and Disobedience to Christ

Verse 1

Christ is divine above all men,

the highest power among all things.

This authority is His divinity.

That is, the disposition

and being of God Himself

are what determine His identity.

Verse 2

So it matters not how normal

the humanity of Christ is,

none can deny He has God’s identity.

No matter which standpoint He speaks from,

how He chooses to heed God’s will,

it cannot be said He is not God Himself.

Chorus

The reason man resists and disobeys God

stems from Christ’s normal humanity,

and from the fact that the incarnate God

submits to God’s will and authority.

Verse 3

Foolish and ignorant men

often see Christ’s normality

as nothing but a defect, as a flaw.

No matter how He expresses

the being of His divinity,

man can’t acknowledge He is Christ at all.

Chorus

The reason man resists and disobeys God

stems from Christ’s normal humanity,

and from the fact that the incarnate God

submits to God’s will and authority.

Bridge

The more Christ obeys, shows humility,

the more lightly by foolish men He is seen.

Some even act with an attitude,

showing contempt or excluding Him,

yet they place “great men” of high images

upon the table to be worshiped.

Chorus

The reason man resists and disobeys God

stems from Christ’s normal humanity,

and from the fact that the incarnate God

submits to God’s will and authority.
