556 Only Those Who Practice the Truth Can Be Saved by God

Verse 1

If you have a shred of hope,

then whether or not God remembers the past,

you should maintain this mentality:

“I must change my disposition, seek to know God,

not be fooled by Satan again, or bring shame to God’s name.”

Chorus

What really determines if you have hope or can be saved

is if you can receive truth after a sermon,

if you can put the truth into practice,

and whether or not you can change.

Verse 2

If you only feel remorse, but when you do something,

you think in the old ways, acting accordingly;

and if you lack understanding, getting worse and worse,

then you’ll be hopeless and should be written off.

The more you know God and your nature,

the more you’ll master yourself.

Summing up your experience, you won’t fail again this way.

Chorus

What really determines if you have hope or can be saved

is if you can receive truth after a sermon,

if you can put the truth into practice,

and whether or not you can change.

Verse 3

All are blemished, revealing corruptions,

like arrogance, conceit, transgressions or rebellion.

No corrupt man can avoid them.

But once you’ve understood truth,

you should avoid them, not be troubled by the past.

Bridge

The fear is that you may understand and not change,

doing things even though they are wrong,

and that you may act a certain way, knowing it is wrong.

Such people are beyond redemption.

Chorus

What really determines if you have hope or can be saved

is if you can receive truth after a sermon,

if you can put the truth into practice,

and whether or not you can change.
