670 Only Through Hardships and Trials Can You Truly Love God

Verse 1

How much do you love God today?

How much do you know of all He’s done in you?

Learn these things.

When God arrives on earth,

all He’s done in man and let him see

is so that man will love Him and truly know Him.

The fact that man is able to suffer for God and come this far

is because of God’s love, it’s because of His salvation.

It’s also because of the judgment and the work of chastisement

that He’s carried out in man.

Chorus

If you’re without His judgment, trials, and chastening,

and if God hasn’t made you go through suffering,

you do not truly love God.

The greater God’s work within man, and man’s suffering,

the more you’ll see how meaningful God’s work is,

and the more that man’s heart can love God.

How do you learn how to love God

without refinement and painful trials?

If God only gave man grace, love, and mercy,

could you really truly love God?

Verse 2

On the one hand, when God brings trials,

man comes to know his own deficiencies;

he sees that he is contemptible, insignificant, and lowly,

that he has nothing and is nothing.

On the other hand, when God brings these trials,

He makes environments for man

so that man is able to experience His loveliness.

Bridge

Though the pain is great, unbearable at times,

even to the point of crushing grief,

man sees how lovely God’s work is in him.

Only on this foundation is

there born in man true love for God.
