He was doing the watering duty, but because he didn't consider things thoroughly while following up on work, he didn't understand the situation of some newcomers. When the supervisor inquired about the work, he worried that the supervisor would think he was being perfunctory in his duty and then form a negative impression of him. To protect his pride and status, he resorted to deceit to cover up the truth. Later, by eating and drinking God's words, he gained some understanding of his state of lying and being deceitful and made some changes.
