She believed that by ensuring her child studied hard and had a good future, she was fulfilling her responsibility as a parent. After having her daughter, she enrolled her in extra classes, forced her to learn the guzheng, and even interfered with whom her daughter could be friends with. This brought her daughter much pain, and eventually caused her to run away from home. She couldn't understand why, after doing so much for her daughter’s sake, such a result had come about. In her suffering, she began to read God’s words and to seek the truth. She gained discernment about the so-called "responsibilities" she was carrying out and she came to understand what parents' true responsibilities really are.
