The protagonist is just 21 years old when she and another sister are illegally detained by Chinese Communist Party police while sharing the gospel. She is sentenced to four years in prison. The prison guards try to force her to write three statements betraying God, and arrange for other inmates to closely surveil her 24 hours a day. They attempt to brainwash her, they abuse and torture her, and give her extra labor duties. She is confined in the "cubicle" twice, an extremely small isolation unit, she is bound to a hard bench for long periods of time, and she is frequently deprived of food. She suffers all manner of indignities and torture in prison, but it is God's words that guide her through these unbearable months and years. Ultimately, she stands witness for God.
