People’s knowledge of their nature is too superficial,

far removed from God’s words of judgment and revelation.

It’s not deep or substantial.

They focus on external acts.

Even if they claim self-knowledge, it wouldn’t be profound.

No one’s ever thought this is how they are,

that this is their nature,

because they’ve done such a thing or revealed something.

God’s revealed the nature of humanity, but humans understand

their way of doing things, their way of speaking

are flawed in reality,

so they find it hard to practice truth.

People think that their mistakes are careless, fleeting expressions

rather than truths of their nature.

Those who see it this way can’t put truth into practice,

for they don’t thirst after truth or accept truth as it is.

They just carelessly follow the rules.

No one’s ever thought this is how they are,

that this is their nature,

because they’ve done such a thing or revealed something.

People don’t view their own nature as being so corrupt,

believing they’re not bad enough to be punished or destroyed,

thinking it’s alright to lie sometimes,

and that they’re better than before.

But they’re nowhere near the standards.

By not putting truth into practice,

people only have some actions that don’t clearly defy truth.
