Christians in Guangdong’s Qingyuan and Foshan Face Wave of Arrests, Over 60 Detained

A 77-year-old Christian in Guangxi was taken away from home. Just over half an hour after arriving at the police station, he suffered a heart attack. Despite his repeated pleas for help, the police ignored him, causing him to miss the critical window for treatment. He ultimately died as a result.
At around 11 a.m. on November 26, 2024, police raided the home of Li Changsong, a Christian from The Church of Almighty God. They ransacked his house, seized more than 10,000 RMB in cash, and took his 77-year-old wife into custody along with two church leaders. Around 1 p.m., police returned to take Li Changsong to the police station for interrogation as well. Shockingly, just two hours later, he was dead.
Following the tragedy, Li Changsong’s wife and children repeatedly demanded to see surveillance footage. When they were finally allowed to view it, the video revealed that at 1:38 p.m., Li was brought into the police station. At 2:16 p.m., he told the guards he was feeling unwell, but they ignored him. At 2:40 p.m., he pleaded again, saying, “I feel awful, it hurts so much!” He told the police that he had heart medication at home and needed to take it, but they still refused to help him and instead walked out of the room. Later, another officer entered and handed him a glass of water. Li said, “I’m in so much pain—I can’t drink it.”
By then, Li Changsong was struggling so much that he kept pacing back and forth, taking off his clothes one by one, putting them back on, and then removing them again. The police still refused to give him his medication or take him to hospital. It wasn’t until 3:38 p.m. that an auxiliary officer was ordered to escort him home. As soon as he arrived home and tried to reach for his medicine, he collapsed. Emergency efforts to revive him failed, and he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, his wife was still detained at the police station.
After Li Changsong’s death, a doctor said that although Li had mild coronary heart disease, his life could have been saved at any point within the 80-minute window from the onset of symptoms to his passing—if only the police had heeded his pleas and given him his fast-acting heart medication.
However, the police denied any responsibility for his death, claiming November 26 was a nationwide secret mass arrest operation.
To this day, Li Changsong’s wife breaks down in tears whenever she speaks of the tragedy, repeatedly saying, “When they took me away, he was still at home—he was fine then. How could this have happened?”
