762 You Do Not Truly Love God

I

You think that you have already given up enough for God;

you think that your love for Him is already enough.

But then why are your words and actions always rebellious and deceitful?

You follow God, yet you do not acknowledge His word.

Is this considered love?

You follow God, yet then cast Him aside.

Is this considered love?

You follow God, yet you are mistrustful of Him.

Is this considered love?

You follow God, yet you can’t accept His existence.

Is this considered love?

You follow God, yet don’t treat Him as befits who He is;

you make things hard for Him at every turn.

Is this considered love?

II

You follow God, yet you try to fool Him and deceive Him in every matter,

you try to fool Him and deceive Him in every matter.

Is this considered love?

You serve God, yet you do not dread Him.

Is this considered love?

You oppose God in all respects and all things.

Is this all considered love?

You have dedicated much, it’s true,

yet you have never practiced what God requires of you.

Can this be considered love?

Careful reckoning shows there’s not the slightest hint

of love for Him within you,

there’s not the slightest hint of love for Him within you.

After so many years of work and all the many words He has supplied,

how much have you actually gained?

Does this not merit a careful look back?
