299 Awaiting God’s Good News
I
With yearning eyes, You call urgently.
Facing cruel mankind, You speak out Your heartfelt words.
For Your single desire, You suffer abject injustice,
pouring out so much painstaking care and expectation.
Never making extravagant demands, gladly You give everything.
Companion to hardships morning through night,
You suffer abject persecution among man.
Who can compare to You in beauty, most honorable and most holy beloved?
Your great pioneering undertaking will be praised through the ages.
II
I fell into sin, but rise in the light.
How grateful I am to be greatly exalted by You.
God incarnate suffers, so how much more should I, a corrupt person suffer!
Should I yield to dark influences, how would I see God?
Whenever I recall Your words, I am filled with longing for You.
Whenever I see Your face, I am filled with guilt and respect.
How could I bear to abandon You, seeking so-called freedom?
I would rather endure all manner of suffering, to repay Your wounded heart.
When flowers bloom again, I will listen to Your good news.
